Healthy HSA - 2008

We are excited to once again kick off our annual Healthy HSA campaign!

This campaign is about empowering you and your family to establish and maintain healthy lifestyle choices, to prevent diseases and achieve excellent health.

As many of us are aware, just by eating healthy and being physically active can prevent a number of chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease. In the next few months, we hope to provide you with practical tips and useful resources to help you take your own steps towards better health.

April - Public Health Month

During the month of April, we’ll turn our focus to the National Public Health Week theme for 2008, “Climate Change, Our Health in the Balance”. We will be sharing a variety of ways that all of us can make a difference in protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, and reducing the impact of Climate Change. The American Public Health Association has developed the following five focus areas to encourage individuals, families and communities to change their daily behavior. We’ll use these focus areas as a guide for this month’s Healthy HSA campaign activities.

Healthy Nutrition Tips

Part 1 (April 7 – 11): Be Prepared

Get informed about Climate Change and its impact on public health. Be ready to respond to public health emergencies that may become more common due to Climate Change, such as extreme heat or wildfires.

Parts 2 and 3 (April 14 – 18): Travel & Eat Differently

It’s easy for people to say that everyone should just drive less and use mass transit, but in rural communities (such as ours) this may not always be a very easy or reasonable solution. That said, there is still a long list of things that we can do a little differently to make a big difference.

Parts 4 and 5 (April 21 – 30): Green Your Work & Your Home

By the end of this campaign we’ll all be able to “go green” a little further, and that includes some important changes we can make around our home and our office. We’ll have a variety of strategies to green-up your life, from easy steps like recycling office paper or turning off lights when you leave a room to more advanced changes like changing your document printing habits and unplugging home electronics when not in use.
