| Asthma
is an inflammatory disease of the airway. Because of the inflammation the
air passages become blocked or narrowed due to mucous production or muscular
contractions. According to the CDC it is the nation’s most common
and costly disease. It affects more than 15 million people, 5 million of
which are children.
Symptoms of asthma are shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
If you suspect you have Asthma make an appointment with your physician
immediately. He or she will discuss your medical history, run some tests
and refer you to a specialist if necessary.
People with asthma can still lead productive lives. However, it is important
to note that individuals must constantly be educating themselves on how
to manage their asthma. Managing asthma includes patient education, avoiding
asthma triggers, pharmacological therapy and frequent medical follow up.
