Officials on Friday confirmed two additional human cases of West Nile
virus in Stanislaus County. A 43-year-old woman had the neuroinvasive
form of the disease and was hospitalized. She was in good condition, officials
said. The second case was a 63-year-old man with West Nile fever. He was
hospitalized and discharged. This year, county officials have confirmed
11 human cases and nine horses infected with the potentially deadly virus.
Three of the horses died or were euthanized, according to the California
Department of Food and Agriculture.
