COUNTY – The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency has just
hired a new coordinator of the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention program.
Linda Burke, R.N., P.H.N., will assume the role of coordinator in early
March, 2000. Burke currently works as an immunization nurse with Stanislaus
County Health Services Agency. She also has a background in oncology nursing
with from the Stanford oncology clinic.
The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program case manages children with elevated
blood levels in Stanislaus County. The program also does medical provider
education and community outreach. The program also works with the county
Department of Environment Resources on inspections of homes for lead exposure
in paint, pipes and soil.
According to RoseAnn Peterson, Supervising Public Health Nurse, "the
lead program impacts the health of all the children in Stanislaus County
who are at risk. We are excited that Linda is joining us as the coordinator.
With her background in working with children and families, she will help
us continue to move forward."
The lead program also performs outreach with community collaboratives
and agencies including Airport United, West Modesto King Kennedy Neighborhood
Collaborative, Robertson Road Healthy Start and the Salvation Army. Outreach
efforts include door-to-door outreach and education to families regarding
lead poisoning prevention.
