County – The City of Ceres adopted an ordinance that designates
the Smyrna Baseball Complex as Tobacco-Free.
On Saturday, April 2nd, from 8:00 a.m. until noon, the Health Services
Agency Tobacco Education staff will be holding a kick-off event at the
Smyrna Baseball Complex located at the corner of Rose Avenue and Garrison
Avenue in Ceres to celebrate the passing of the ordinance at Ceres Youth
Baseball League’s (CYB) opening day of the season. On this day,
all teams will play a 3-inning game. The league has approximately 1200
youth ages 5 to 18 years of age that play in this league.
The talent lineup for the event is as follows:
- O2 Van, a customized van and trailer with games and a state-of-the-art
sound and video system designed with a tobacco prevention focus.
- Peanut, the Nuts mascot.
Doctors Medical Center Foundation’s Fresh Outdoors Project also
will be participating in the opening day kick-off event activities as
well as contributing financially to the costs associated with signage,
media, and promotional items.
The Health Services Agency Tobacco Education staff collaborated with
CYB and the Parks & Recreation Director, Doug Lemke, on presenting
the ordinance to the Ceres City Council. On February 14, 2005, the City
Council passed the ordinance 4 to 1.
