Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Who We Are

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Program helps families or caregivers cope with SIDS/SUID (Sudden Unexplained Infant Death) related deaths, educates on the importance of safe sleep environments, and engages in family-centered conversations to reduce the risk of all sleep-related deaths. These services are provided by a Public Health Nurse (PHN) with specialized training.

If you have questions or need more information about the SIDS program, call (209) 558-7400

What We Do

The PHN educates families on SIDS risk reduction and safe sleep to people who interact with infants. PHN can also provide:

  • in-home, community, or telephone support for families who have experienced an infant death from sleep-related causes.
  • grief and bereavement support to parents and caregivers who suffer a SIDS/SUID loss and referral to specialized resources for the families.
  • education and outreach to community partners and individuals interacting with infants, parents, and caregivers. The education focuses on SIDS risk reduction and safe sleep.

All of these services are offered free of charge.
